I have a Foxconn A7GM-S 2.0 Motherboard, Win 7 Ultimate 64, Asus Radeon HD 3200 and the same problem

Error 43029, Display is not active, Source: atikmdag

I got this Error already 22x and my installation is totally new, just 4 h old and no other software installed beside of the new Catalyst, downloaded from the ATI Website. Actually this driver looked a little bit strange...

ATI Radeon take the first download link

Unisntall what you installed for Catalyst Software Suite and install this one

Maybe this? Method 10: Replacing the old version of atikmdag.sys with an updated copy. | atikmdag stopped responding and has recovered...

You might also want to make sure you get all Critical and Important Windows Updates

I received Event ID 52236 and random BSODs for three months before I solved my problem (see Laptop blacks out randomly.).

Basically I found out that when I upgraded my driver, I installed the wrong one. Though I tried reinstalling it several times, I always used the wrong one.

Instead of getting the driver for an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200, I got the one for ATI Radeon HD 4200. I don't know why they use the same model numbers for desktop and notebook versions. When I finally realized the problem by using ATI's auto detect tool, it saved me the price of a new computer.

It sounds ridiculously simple, but I can't be the only one who made this mistake.

    Event Viewer - error atikmdag

Most of the posts on this forum are at least a few years old, at least those that I have looked at so far regarding this error event.

I got a phone call this morning purporting to be from Southend Enterprises acting as the software arm of Microsoft. First she (with Indian? accent) got me into the Event Viewer where I had a couple Critical, several Error, and many Informational events. Some of the Errors listed the source at atikmdag, which led me here via a Google search.

After some back and forth, my trying to determine if the call was a scam and refusing to let someone connect remotely, hung up on her.

My wife's computer, running XP, showed similar events albeit with different sources in some cases.

What is the story? What should I do about this?

My computer: Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5983 running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit.

To expand on my post I have now sorted the source column and see that I have had hundreds of atikmdag errors -- from last December to this morning as far as I can tell. Many/most say Event ID/Task Categ. 43029 DAL, although quite a few say 62464 DVD/OV as well as some other variations.

The 3 Critical events have Kernel-Power as the Source.

I'm getting these on an HP Pavilion dv7-1245dx Entertainment Notebook I'm upgrading from Vista to 7.

There is a Win7 32 bit driver posted here which will not install by any method even Vista Compat mode:
Software & driver downloads HP Pavilion dv7-1245dx Entertainment Notebook PC | HP® Support

The driver Updates delivered is for ATI Radeon HD 3200: v. 8.632.3.0 7/22/2009

There is no visible performance problem after a day of working on it but due to mention of BSOD's relating to this error I am wary of delivering it until I am sure there isn't a solution. I don't like to leave repeat errors unresolved.
