Anyone have details and/or a fix for Event ID 43029 and Event ID 52236 in Event Viewer > Error? Event ID 43029 simply says "Display in not active", has atikmdag listed under Source column, and DAL under Task Category column. Event ID 52236 says "CPLIB :: General - Invalid Parameter", has atikmdag listed under Source column, and CPLIB under Task Category column. Both show up in Event Viewer > Error at the same time on or around every boot.

The problem appears to be caused by the ati display driver. I have a radeon 4870 and am experiencing the same issue. Also, my boot time is about 5 min, and I believe this is the cause.

I installed win7 on this machine before, and boot time was < 15 sec from POST to Desktop.

I think this has to do with the ATI drivers installed during an update. I seem to recall making the mistake of installing hardware drivers from Microsoft by accident and that's when this all started. Normally, installing hardware drivers provided by Microsoft is VERBOTEN because they almost always have issues of this sort. Fact is, I was better off with the original drivers that came with Win7 and should have stayed away from the one provided by Windows Update. It was an accident.... Siiiiigh. Maybe installing from the ATI website will sort this mess out.....

At present, 1 200 GB hard disk by Toshiba, I think. Probably replace this with a solid state drive or a 500 GB high-speed drive at some point. (Other two HDX9000's have 128 GB solid state drives and are very very fast, but they have to be tuned rig

I have the same problems and I wonder if you could fix them? I sent two mails to Dell (because I have a Dell laptop) but they didn't answer...

Has anyone found out a solution?

These errors seem to no longer occur with the past few releases of Catalyst.

I have still those errors after uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling the latest driver

I have the same issue with an onboard/integrated ATI Radeon 4200. After fresh-install, MS downloaded a video driver (and it looks like it's the ATI one).

Any solution? What do these 2 errors MEAN?

I get those pair of messages upon each bootup. Even after my initial install with a brand new PC.

i have the same entries in my event logs.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I'm using a Toshiba Satellite laptop with Win7 Ultimate.

I do not know if I've always had the problem as was running down another entry in the event log when I spotted these two.

Don't really want to but may select a restore point a couple of program installs and updates prior. If anyone comes up with a suggestion, just might save me some effort. Think only recent additions have been SlySoft AnyDVD and CloneDVD.

Thanks,
Karl

In my case the very latest ATI driver for Radeon has solved the problem

ddinc, I did manage to eliminate by fetching a driver from Toshiba site but now must refetch since in the meantime I wiped the drive clean and did a fresh win 7 install.

Immediately after the Win7 install, I checked the event viewer and sure 'nuf, the error entries were there again.

Haven't gotten around to once again downloading and installing the Toshiba driver but will probably do that tomorrow.

OK, just noticed that I hadn't "allowed" sevenforums.com in NoScript and first msg had no newline entries

I have a Foxconn A7GM-S 2.0 Motherboard, Win 7 Ultimate 64, Asus Radeon HD 3200 and the same problem

Error 43029, Display is not active, Source: atikmdag

I got this Error already 22x and my installation is totally new, just 4 h old and no other software installed beside of the new Catalyst, downloaded from the ATI Website. Actually this driver looked a little bit strange...

I received Event ID 52236 and random BSODs for three months before I solved my problem (see Laptop blacks out randomly.).

Basically I found out that when I upgraded my driver, I installed the wrong one. Though I tried reinstalling it several times, I always used the wrong one.

Instead of getting the driver for an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200, I got the one for ATI Radeon HD 4200. I don't know why they use the same model numbers for desktop and notebook versions. When I finally realized the problem by using ATI's auto detect tool, it saved me the price of a new computer.

It sounds ridiculously simple, but I can't be the only one who made this mistake.

Event Viewer - error atikmdag

Most of the posts on this forum are at least a few years old, at least those that I have looked at so far regarding this error event.

I got a phone call this morning purporting to be from Southend Enterprises acting as the software arm of Microsoft. First she (with Indian? accent) got me into the Event Viewer where I had a couple Critical, several Error, and many Informational events. Some of the Errors listed the source at atikmdag, which led me here via a Google search.

After some back and forth, my trying to determine if the call was a scam and refusing to let someone connect remotely, hung up on her.

My wife's computer, running XP, showed similar events albeit with different sources in some cases.

What is the story? What should I do about this?

My computer: Toshiba Satellite L505D-S5983 running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit.

To expand on my post I have now sorted the source column and see that I have had hundreds of atikmdag errors -- from last December to this morning as far as I can tell. Many/most say Event ID/Task Categ. 43029 DAL, although quite a few say 62464 DVD/OV as well as some other variations.

The 3 Critical events have Kernel-Power as the Source.

I'm getting these on an HP Pavilion dv7-1245dx Entertainment Notebook I'm upgrading from Vista to 7.

There is a Win7 32 bit driver posted here which will not install by any method even Vista Compat mode:
Software & driver downloads HP Pavilion dv7-1245dx Entertainment Notebook PC | HP® Support

The driver Updates delivered is for ATI Radeon HD 3200: v. 8.632.3.0 7/22/2009

There is no visible performance problem after a day of working on it but due to mention of BSOD's relating to this error I am wary of delivering it until I am sure there isn't a solution. I don't like to leave repeat errors unresolved.
