How do I know what exact drivers I need for a laptop?

I am on the manufactures website and there is more than one driver for different things. Obviously I need the correct one, so how do I know what the vendor the driver came from? For an example, there is a "ELANTECH" Touchpad driver and then there is a "Synaptics" Touchpad driver.
