Read Only , I would not say it's a dangerous operation to install unsigned drivers , basically all that means is the manufacturer has not paid Microsoft to digitally sign the drivers [quite expensive it appears] But back to your problem , would it not be more feasible to buy a new upto date scanner or an AIO printer they are "as cheap as chips" nowadays :)

That's exactly what HP want me to do, they don't release win7 driver to force us to by new scanner. I bought mine brand new less than 3 years ago and it does an incredibly good job especially for 3D objects scans. No way I'm gonna buy another one when the one I have is doing the job perfectly fine.

    Hi,

Sorry to bump this old thread but my problem is relevant to this thread.
I have also tried to make my scanjet 5470c work with Windows XP mode but it doesn't work for me. The driver installs with no problem, but Windows XP still doesn't detect the scanner.

    Please help me.

    I have the 64bit version of Win7.
    Tested already and failed terribly.

OK Read Only, Lets try a different approach , after a little research I have found the 5300 series use the same driver BUT it was made for Vista 64 bit [sj664en.exe] give that driver a try install in compatibility mode for Vista, don't forget to run as administrater

First I am very grateful that you are trying to help me, a thousand thanks!!

    I checked this [sj664en.exe]

ScanJet 5300c/cse/cxi PrecisionScan software/driver - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

    It says:

Compatibility: Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows 2000

No Vista 64bits mentioned, maybe I didn't get to the right page and file.
Can you link me to the Vista 64 compatible driver page please?

Read Only, here is the source I used How to get your HP Scanjet 5300c working in Windows Vista - Publishing - Pixel2Life unfortunately on another forum I am not allowed to link to the author states "if you are looking for 64bit drivers good luck" So I'm afraid I am at a loss now ,don't know what else to suggest

I friend also has the HP Scanjet 5470c and is considering upgrading to Windows x64

Just out of interest, if she used 7 Ultimate, would this scanner work in XP Mode?

    Cheers

Hi scoutfu, If your friend is going to use 7-32bit then yes but if she intends keeping 64bit ,I'm afraid there are no drivers available
