Multiport Communications Port (com3) error, code 34

I am using a dell powered win7 system that seems to not recognize a com3 device actually here is the message windows pop up when I try to troubleshoot it.

"Windows cannot determine the settings for this device. Consult the documentation that came with this device and use the Resource tab to set the configuration. (Code 34)"

    Anyone knows what to do?

Here is it the post on it:

Here's what I found about Error code 34:
    Code 34
Windows cannot determine the settings for this device. Consult the documentation that came with this device and use the Resource tab to set the configuration. (Code 34)

    Recommended resolution

    Manually configure the device.

This content is designed for an advanced computer user.

    Manually configure the device

The device requires manual configuration. See the hardware documentation or contact the hardware vendor for instructions on manually configuring the device. After you configure the device itself, you can use theResources tab in Device Manager to configure the resource settings in Windows.

I can't really help you there at this point because I dont even know the manufacturer, make, model, and serial number of your cmputer to even search for the documentation myself. I suggest you contact the manufaturer's technical support group and get their assistance finding the right drivers and setting the correct manual cofiguration if required (but you might want to try the remaining options here before you pick up the phone). What do you have attached to Com3 and what type of connection is com3?
Go to Device Manager by going tostart / search box and type device manager and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears. Check each device for a red x, yellow ! or white ?. These identify devices with problems (probably drivers, but also conflicts or something else). Click on each for further details and troubleshooting tips. If you need to get drivers(and you may need to do so for com3 - not just reinstalling what you have but getting the most updated version appropriate for your version of Vista) and any others you have time to do - they may help in ways beyond just resolving this problem), do so from the computer vendor or device manufacturer (NOT from Microsoft Updates). In fact, you should turn off automatic driver updates from Windows Update as follows:http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-disable-automatic-driver-installation-in-windows-vista/. Proceed as follows to get the drivers:http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm. Once you have the drivers, you can install them through Device Manager as follows:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html.
Was this working recently and then just stopped? Do you know when this problem began? Try a System Restore to a point in timeBEFORE the problem began. Here's the procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/. Be sure to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two. NOTE: You will have to re-install any software and updates you installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for the updates. Use the recovery disk if the system prompt doesn’t work. The recovery disk works a bit different from the above procedures but if you follow the prompts from the System Restore menu option with the above information you should be able to restore with no problems.
I hope this helps. Please post back in any case.
    Good luck!

When you purchase the HP 6000 Pro keep in mind this is a very powerful machine with many upgrades available ... I write this as a problem solver for those who may run into the same Problem I did recently... This machine comes standard with a (2) core CPU and you can upgrade to a Intel 2 Quad core ... BUT if you do change to a quad core you will need to know that if you reinstall an operating system with the Quad installed you will run into a major issue with the INTEL Active management Technology (COM3) Driver ... It took me four days with many tests repeated for me to finally realize I needed to keep the Dual core 2.8 E5700 installed while installing the operating system for the driver to install... After you have used a lower grade CPU with a fresh install of an Operating system you can soon after or right after Finally install your Quad core and the Driver remains with no error ...
