    Touchpad scrolling problem

fter I installed Windows 7 (couldn't upgrade, had to do a custom install), the scrolling on the right side of my touchpad stopped working. I downloaded a new driver, but it still doesn't work.

When I go into the Synaptics device settings, it says that I have a "Standard Pointing Device" and when I look at the settings it only gives me options for two buttons (no scrolling options). I attached a picture of the options window I'm talking about.

    Can anybody help?

My computer is an hp pavilion dv2000.

Which drivers did you use, HP's or drivers directly from Synaptics? Synaptics recently released Windows 7 drivers which might help. Plus, the drivers directly from Synaptics usually allow more tweaks than those from computer manufacturers. Here's the Synaptics link:

First, "Welcome to the Seven Forums."
Looking at the attachment you provided you are using an old version of Synaptics drivers. Go to the HP web site (Support) type in your laptop model (Pavilion dv 2000). Then download "ALL" drivers for you laptop; one of those will be the following: "Synaptics TouchPad V6.2 (Synaptics Touchpad Driver).

I have the same unit, and prior to upgrading to win 7 I first downloaded all the drivers, though the only one that needed to be updated was the touchpad. Good Luck :)

    Thanks for the responses guys!

I downloaded my drivers from here: Select software and drivers HP Pavilion dv2000 CTO Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

    Lee,
Although the touchpad driver that I got did not say V6.2. That might be my problem. I will look for that.

    zrtom,
I tried getting drivers from the hp website and I have also tried getting them the Synaptics website.

    zigzag,
I will try doing this when I get home, but I recall seeing a message saying that the device is working properly.

    Thanks guys!

    I have to correct:
Do NOT choose your laptop model on HP website, but search the whole support center using a single keyword like 'synaptics'.
    And here we go:

    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...1&mode=4&idx=2

This is not the very latest release of HP, but it has the highest version number.

Thanks, Sillyman! I will try that when I get back home.

Should I be deleting old drivers before I install new ones?

I never did this, and I am updating frequently without any problem. I always like to have installed the latest drivers.

Even after installing a while number of different drivers, my computer still recognizes my touchpad as a "Standard Pointing Device" rather than a Synaptics V6.2 touchpad. I get basic functionality, but still no scrolling. How do I fix that?

    1. uninstall device completely in Device Manager
    2. reboot
    3. let Windows Update find a driver and install
    4. reboot
    5. update driver from the link I gave you
