Screen brightness stuck after unplug during sleep

I'm having problems with adjusting my screen's brightness after I unplug my laptop while it's sleeping. The screen can't be adjusted from the hotkeys or by right clicking power options. Adjusting the brightness is no problem when I wake up the laptop from sleep and I haven't plugged or unplugged anything during sleep. I have a HP Envy dv6-7245us with drivers mostly from the Pavilion dv6-7000 series since I recently downgraded to Windows 7 from a pre-installed Win8 machine. I've attached info on my display drivers (which are up to date), the settings in my AMD Vision Engine Control Center, and the log from when I tried to update my AMD chipset (it said everything was already up to date).

Quick solution: Close the lid and open it back. Now you'll be able to change the brightness. AFAIK, there's no other solution to this problem.

Also make sure closing the lid doesn't make it sleep or hibernate or shutdown (go to Power options > Click 'Choose what closing lid does' on the left and then on the next page, select 'Nothing' for both AC power and battery)

    It's a Windows 7 bug.

Maybe just a proper shut down and a proper boot.

nilank, so there are no alternative drivers I can try? I had Windows 7 on my last laptop and this never happened. I also tried HP quick launch buttons but that made things worse.

layback bear, I forgot to mention the brightness can be adjusted again once I shut down, restart, etc.

No, closing/opening lid is the only way. Does that work for you?

Haven't tried it yet. I've been trying to rid my computer of the damage the hp quick launch button driver I installed did (which i stupidly thought might fix the problem).

nilank, After changing what closing the lid does, I'm actually having a hard time replicating the problem. But I also changed some other settings (like I made the dimmed display brightness 0% which is where I usually keep the current brightness) so I'm not sure what fixed it. I'll try and tinker more with it, and if all else fails hopefully I can just remember to manually put my computer to sleep instead of using the lid.

So it was definitely the options about the closing of the lid that helped. Thanks.
