UPDATE! ASUS UX32VD Win7x64 Webcam driver needed

UPDATE: After some searching I found that the camera is controlled by a Realtek 5828T camera controller. Can anyone help me find a driver for this? The Realtek site doesn't have it listed.

    Hello,

Unfortuneatly the webcam on my ASUS UX32VD stopped working a couple of days ago. I called ASUS support and they said they had no idea where to download the drivers from and couldn't provide me with any other solution than reimaging from the hidden partition. I'm hoping someone here can help me locate the drivers for this webcam. The strange thing is, I can't find any trace of the webcam in the device manager.

Below is a list of drivers and software I have already uninstalled and reinstalled from the asus support website:

ExpressCache, FaceLogon, LifeFrame3, Virtual Camera, USB3 Drivers, USB Charger Plus, ATKPackage.

I've also ran a system restore back to a date when the camera was working but to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am experiencing this exact same problem. I believe that the camera must actually be physically broken, as it doesn't even show up in device manager. Were you ever able to resolve this issue?

No I'm sorry to say I have not resolved this problem. I was hoping it was software but it's more likely an internal cable that has been severed with opening and closing the lid. I've seen this before, but only in older, cheaper laptops.

I cannot guarantee that this is the case, but it's currently my prevailing theory. I just don't have time to get a warranty repair.

OK, that makes a lot of sense; it could have happened during my hard drive install. I'm in the exact same situation you are; I want to send in my computer to get the webcam fixed, but I can't really afford to go without it for a month.

If you ever find a solution, would you let me know?

I have the same problem, the camera hasn't worked since I bought my UX32VD. Last night, I kept on hearing the windows sound for connecting and disconnecting a USB device, and I discovered that it was my webcam. Moving the laptop ever so slightly would cause it to connect or disconnect, meaning that the issue must be mechanical (I wasn't running any software or doing any tasks). I'm convinced that the first batches of UX32VDs must have had shoddy worksmanship since early reviews corroborate this claim, and a friend who recently bought one has no issues with his camera.

Good to know what the problem is...finally. I don't think it's worth it to send it in for repair, since I've never used the camera in the first place.
