My Windows Drivers Foundation is set to manual. I have never changed it. What is the default?
Edit: The service is: Windows Driver Foundation - User Mode Driver Framework
No need to go away, the more people we have looking at this the better. I would like to have the answers to the following questions:
#1 What is the default service start up for the service?
#2 What changed it from AUTOMATIC to *MANUAL?
#3 Why do some cameras start the service but the Canon's DO NOT?
#4 Are there security risks for the service?
#5 Can A/V software or viruses exploit the service?
* MANUAL = Start on demand for this service. We have also noted that it seems (no proof yet) that the install of IE10 and 2 or 3 reboots changes the setting from AUTOMATIC to MANUAL. We are trying to find a few machines that do not have IE10 on them to test this (fortunately or unfortunately all our machines have IE10 on them). -WS

Wel my Home Premium version is set to "Manual" I have definitely never touched it so I assume "Manual" to be the default. But then it besgs the question, How come some of your users have Auto set in their home computers. Very Confusing. I wouldn't have thought that an update would alter these settings but thenstranger things happen at sea!
Do you have a Canon Camera? If so would you plug it in to a USB port, read the SD card/Picture Memory. Then unplug it and put it back. It should work. Now unplug and reboot, then plug it back in to the very same USB port and is should not work. Then start the Windows Driver Foundation - User Mode Driver Framework service and magically the camera will work, no reboot or unplug/plug needed. I would like to see if you have the same issues/symptoms. Many thanks.
