Well the sound is back as you say so what is the Device Manager showing now? The drivers must be in order or even the headphones wouldn't work. Maybe the internal speakers are no good. Without seeing it first ahnd it is dificult to say just what is going on.

When you do an install Windows does check of the system in any case and I would have thought that the OS would have sorted out any glaring errors.

Is the machine working ok as it is anyway? as in booting and getting on the net etc etc?

sounds is back when im using headphone, but without it, no sounds again, at device manager, the "Sound, video and game controllers" appeared, but under it, "USB Headphone Set" was the only there, the laptop works on wi-fi, but when i connect it in broadband, "Local Area Connection", it won't connect.

PS: as of now, i'm not done anything, just connect the headphone, that's all sir, "reformat thing", not yet at all,

It certainly sounds like a ethernet port driver but that sounds still rather odd.

What about the cable from the modem to the machine any chance of trying another one and while that is done perhaps powering down the modem lave for say 30 seconds then reboot it.

what you mean ethernet port driver sir?, is it possible if i go to reformat it, will the sounds works again, with or without headphone?...

yes sir i tried other cable, but no luck, still can't connect, do you think sir that the best solution right now, is to reformat my laptop? give me a go signal sir, and i will,

PS: what the use of the folder "preload" at my D:\ drive?, is it okay to delete it, because it occupied 9GB+ in drive D:

No the ethernet driver is the one that runs the ethernet port on the machine that just connects the modem to the machine - I thoought you said you could not connect to the net so that is why I think you need to download that driver for that port.

Now if you cannot get on the net this is going to be a problem and you may have to get it on a stick via another machine. As there are only Vista drivers available then I think you have two options 1) contact HP and ask 2) download and install that driver I think because it says for Vista it will not work for 7 that doesn't ,make sense because that would mean that machine is only ever going to work with Vista on it doesn't it??

Well Think I reckon we have exhausted all I can think of I would just got with the Vista drivers as I said I cannot for the life of me see why thy will not or would not work mate.

Mate I am real sorry it has got to this and maybe I know you don't want to hear this but perhaps the laptop has seen better days and needs replacing.
I've fixed a few Vistas but they usually are completely screwed up except for the odd one and this one looks like it needs to go.

I take it by reformatting a clean install? If so Think do a thorough clean up of the drive first mate to remove any traces of the problem.

It will take some tie depending on the drive size but this Disk - Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command

Then do the clean install preferably with this as you will avoid the HP bloatware USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

just make sure you get the correct version.
