Hi Dan did you Install the Smbus controller Driver from the Nvidia chipset ? If so you might be able to download the VGA driver to flash drive ... Failing that I would try Garys suggestion ... You did download the right one this time just checking ?

Indeed I did install that driver.
What would I do once I downloaded the VGA installer to the flash drive? I doubt it would boot from USB as I explained in my first post. I already tried Gary's suggestion, but it tells me that I need to be using the Nvidia hardware. And yep, positive I downloaded the right one this time haha. |

Hi Dan I know you said it would not boot from the USB ... But the chipset Driver might have solved that problem worth checking any how

Dan if that does not work go into the Bios and see if you can select the on-board card as the priority one.

I come bearing good news!
After realizing that this was obviously some sort of VGA driver problem, I connected my PC to my TV via HDMI, and voila! Picture! The resolution was pretty low so I installed those VGA drivers, rebooted the PC and I had full 1080p resolution ![]() So then I thought I'd try out booting my Windows 7 ISO from DVD and what happens? That works too! However, booting from DVD/USB/booting to safe mode still isn't working on my VGA monitor connection (but at least I have picture again!), which is leading me to believe there is still a driver issue somewhere and my VGA connection isn't supporting VGA mode which I think safe mode and boot installations use (by boot installations, I mean Windows 7 install/manufacturer factory settings etc). So I'm half done but at least I've managed to identify the problem. |

Well done Dan .... I cannot think where the Driver issue would be ... Considering the fact that you have Installed the Driver for the VGA from the Acer website ... That should have been the original Driver ... But i shall a rethink about the matter ,maybe some thing will spring into my mind

That's exactly what I thought. It's strange how everything works using HDMI but not VGA. It's not like it's never worked either. I always used to factory restore from disk using VGA.
Pretty weird, and hopefully I can figure it out soon but at least I have the computer working with onboard graphics again. I might start a new topic in another subforum to see if other people can help too. Thanks for all your help, Maxie! It's been well appreciated. |

Onboard video chipset Hello, I recently asked a question about cpu fans that come with the cpu (and helpfully learned that they are often not powerful enough for moderate cpu usage and often loud) which clarified why I should get a separate cpu fan. Two questions. Could I use the fan that comes with the cpu,... |
