Windows 7: Building RAMDisk

Building RAMDisk

I downloaded the source of a sample driver called RAMDisk. It can be seen here RAMDISK Version 1.0 for Windows 2000/Windows XP

Then I downloaded the WDK 8.0 from Microsoft.

But it seems that there must be a special setup to cause the environment to be setup such that the .h files in the WDK can be found. I know that I could search out each .h file used and add them manually into the properties but I'm thinking there must be something that I need to run which will setup everything necessary.

Does anyone know if there is a setup to link the WDK 8.0 with VS2010?

No, I'm using Windows 7 but I also have XP computers. Do you think an XP forum would be beter? Do you have a pointer to an XP forum?

Using Dataram RAMdisk
Mentioned recently I swapped my hard drive for an SSD, then increased RAM to 8 GB. Installed RAMdisk (512 MB) and trying to send all the temporary files I can think of. So far sending the cache for Google Chrome and IE, also redirected TMP and TEMP folders to RAMdisk. Anything else?

best ramdisk software?
I have more than enough RAM on my machine and I have read that a virtual RAM disk may come in handy in certain situations (such as for browser cache, etc.). In the absence of the native support one needs to use a third-party program. Could anyone recommend a good one? Free would be good to try...
