I am having the same problem. I have NO errors showing in Device Manager. I have NO unknown start-up programs.
The only permantly working USB device connected is a wireless mouse.
I have explored Event Viewer without finding anything.
Will try with 'Sounds' set to default & post back if it changes.

Follow the directions here What information appears in event logs (Event Viewer)? Post the results and we'll figure it out.

You didn't mentioned the exactly steps. I opened Even Viewer but in which option I have to go to get results ?
The page of link you posted says, "Click an event log in the left pane." But I didn't find that. and how to give you result ? in which format ?
