    Windows Update & Printer Driver.

I am having issues with both. I have a windows 7 64 bit preinstalled. The windows update is behaving oddly. When you hit the “Check for updates” it looks for them, then doesn’t find them most of the time, say the firewall maybe blocking it. What is odd at the same time, the windows update icon by the clock, shows it downloading updates. Just in case it is Windows firewall, how do I allow windows update through the windows firewall. Step by step instruction, I am not familiar with the newer windows firewall. I need to know the name of Windows Update executable, so I can add it to the firewall exception list.

Like I said above I have a 64 bit machine that maybe the problem. Hp claims W7 will install the default OS driver. No luck. I don’t know if the other suggestion about downloading updated driver list from windows 7 worked or not due to my issue with Windows Update.

Yes, I am still on a dial-up, so I can’t download windows 8.1 full install plus I don’t know if that will fix the issue anyway.

    Thank You in advance.

hi groze. welcome to the forums.

what anti-virus are you using if any?

you also mention that you are on dialup? so are you allowing enough time for windows to download the necessary updates?

i wouldn't beleive that the standard firewall with win7 would block win7 updates?

also can i ask if you are using a original copy of win7?

It is an Dell Oem preinstalled service pack 1 and they did send me an Oem Recovery Install disk (Not a factory recover disk) for windows update problem, which fixed that but not the driver. Using windows update & dial-up with BITS turned on. It downloads huge files in no time. The point is HP claims the default driver is available on the installation disk or at windows update it is not---but can't say for sure on Windows update due to issues with windows update.

    Clamwin virus XP SP3

    Xyvos Antivirus Windows 7

    Windows firewall on both systems.
