PCI Serial Port?H
Hi,
I just installed Windows 7 and updated all my drivers. I am missing two drivers, and I don't know what they are: PCI Serial Port PCI Simple Communication Controller What exactly are these? I own a Lenovo X200 Tablet. Any ideas where I can find the drivers for these two things? Thanks, |

Those devices
The two devices you see are for the Intel Active Management interface and the Intel Management Engine interface. You can often research such situations by looking up the PCI vendor and device ID at PCI Vendor and Device Lists. Those values are in the Details tab of the device in Device Manager under the Hardware Ids property.
VEN_8086 tell you it is Intel. DEV_2444 and DEV_2447 tell you the different actual devices. Based on that, you should try downloading the Intel AMT related software from Lenovo. |

Solved:
The drivers on Lenovo's site worked, but they were not obvious. Thanks to focher for pointing them out. Symptoms: Upon unpacking my new Lenovo X200 tablet (well, my daughter's new Lenovo X200 tablet) I copied the hard drive contents to an external drive and then loaded the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Build 7100. I formatted the primary partition and installed Win7 there. After installation some devices were not recognzed. I attached to my network via an Ethernet cable and was able to install some of the drivers by right-clicking and having Win7 search for them on the internet. However it was not able to find the drivers for three devices.
Resolution: These problems were fixed by these drivers: PCI Serial Port Intel AMT X200s X200 Tablet Local Manageability Service and Serial Over LAN (Intel AMT 4.0) driver for Windows Vista, XP 05 Jan 2009 v5.4.0.1074 Filename = 7vr212ww PCI Simple Communications Controller Management Engine Interface (Intel AMT 4.0) Windows Vista, XP 12 May 2008 v4.0.1.1074 Filename = 7vr109ww Network Controller Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, abg, bg) for Windows Vista - ThinkPad http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70505.html Filename = 6hwv04ww I hope that this helps. |

Thanks focher
Thanks, for that piece of information focher:
"The two devices you see are for the Intel Active Management interface and the Intel Management Engine interface." Once I knew what they were I was able to download the correct files from Dell. They did not automatically install (when run they both failed). But than going back to the device manager and selecting update drive and the location of the files, both installed and are working correctly. ![]() ![]() The computer was running fine, but I do not like to leave thing unresolved. |

some additional observations
I'm working through a related problem, trying to install a fresh Windows 7 Enterprise on an old X201. I have the "Intel Centrino Advanced N + 6250" card. I figure that once I get that running and connected to the local wifi network, I can do Windows Update and get most of the other drivers that I need for this system.
It's quite mysterious why intalling the Intel Proset drivers doesn't do anything; it looks like the AMT install may be needed to bootstrap the Wifi card drivers. One observation that I've made is that rebooting through this process is pretty important. Installing various drivers like AMT, the install software doesn't tell you to reboot but this helps. |

right tap the missing driver icon and press properties and then details and then scroll under to hardware-id and then there should be "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29B7&SUBSYS_303817AA&REV_02" and after that google is you best friend
i found some of my missing drivers here but its the best to google that sh*t :d
