Driver Update Question  

Hi, I just installed the latest ATI drivers for my video card, now in Windows update, there's an important update there for my ATI video card.

I'm reluctant to install it because I don't want it to override the latest driver from ATI that I just installed. Will the driver from Windows update do that?

Am I correct in assuming that the driver directly from the manufacturer is better than the one coming from Microsoft? Or are they just essentially the same? The driver from Win update is only 9mb +, and I think the driver from ATI is over 20mb.

If I decide not to install it, how do I keep it from reminding me over & over.

The size difference is the CCC - Windows only has the driver, not the Catalyst software. The versions may be different, because it might depend on your hardware.

For video cards, you typically want to use the drivers obtained directly from the manufacturer (in your case ATI). So no, if you have the ATI drivers already, you do NOT need the Microsoft drivers.

To hide the update prompt, right-click on the update name and click "Hide Update".

Unless you have a card that is not supported by ATI/AMD in Windows 7. Then, you should stick with the Windows update version (like for my X1400).

Ok
if the driver you have now works, use it. the driver from MS migth be the same, it ,might not. If you decide you never want to download it you can "hide" it.

Find it on the list of updates set to download and check it. on the bottom of the page (i think) is a "hode checked drivers" click and its hidden until you decide to unhide it

True. I assumed that a person running a dual-boot (like the OP) is smart enough to realize whether the "latest" manufacturer drivers for their card are 7-compatible.
