Can programs still run even if they been unticked in the startup list

For example I installed the Intel Rapid Storage Technology software and want it running. When it's checked to on in the start-up list, theirs a icon that appears by the clock when booting. I want my pc to boot as fast as possible so I unticked it in the startup list. So must it be started with windows at boot-up then for it to be running ?

In my experience the Intel RST doesn't really offer any great advantage, but; if you want it running it is best to leave it set to run at start up.

Having said that, when installed it places an option on your start menu, so yes, you can manually start it from there if you really want to.

The same goes for most programs. The exceptions being things like low level drivers such as audio, are loaded with the OS.

not really. sometimes if theres a task that schedules it, it will run. you will have to delete the task in task scheduler. also there may be a service that it also uses. to stop this, go into services and change it from auto to manual.
