Windows 7: Win 7 not recognizing internal mem card reader

20 Nov 2009   #11

I have a P5K Premium mobo from ASUS, I have found a solution of this card reader device error; I went to ASUS website and installed ASUS Navigation Wizard, then I let the wizard to find my mobo version and I selected OS as Win 7 and then downloaded the Chipset upgrade ( Here is the URL i used:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

You can also skip the wizard and just select your specs at the right side of the screen in ASUS website of the above link.

Mine works instantly after the chipset upgrade, good luck to you all!

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

By the way, Excellent info but it did not work for me. I was aware of that ASUS site/page because I updated my Bios through there. I have an Asus P5K-E with Bios v.1305. I tried the chipset download for my OS and it was the same one you tried v. (I am running Win 7 Ultimate x64) After I downloaded the file to my desktop I un-zipped it with winrar. I ran the install file on the first page. There was a readme page (2nd Page) about how to install the update. The readme file says the chipset update targets Intel 5 series/3400 series chipsets. This is where I was lost. I looked in the device manager under system devices and listed there was G33/G31/p35/P31 Express Chipset & Intel ICH9 Family Controller. I have no idea if I have a 5 series/3400 series chipset.

well in this situation you can actly uninstall all usb root hubs and restart the computer then it would automatically install the drivers and now try to insert the drive and check whether its getting detected or not ...if not this way you can even try in the following way ie
strt- in strt serach field type dev - device manager - check for root hubs and - choose the driver and on the top click on action - and scan for hardware changes it would give an automatic response follow accordingly ....and you can even update the driver from their itself ...

My Memory

I think I found the problem. My memory (less than 2 years old and never overclocked) was slowly going bad. The last 3 weeks or so I had 4 or 5 crashes. Just before the crash a blue screen said something about a "memory dump" so (After some limited research) I replaced my 4gb (2x2gb) of Corsair Dominator pc8500 memory with 2gb (2x1gb) of Kingston pc8500 memory. Both of these I got from the QVL for my MB. So far for the last 2 weeks or so everything is rock steady and not one single issue with any of my USB ports and my Sandisk 8gb Flash Drive never worked better. As far as the internal memory card reader goes I removed it and sent it back for a refund. I am using a usb card reader for my micro sd cards, full sized SD & Memory Stick Pro Duo without any problems at all.

Internal Card Reader
I have a built in multi-card reader, seems to work fine. It shows up as 4 drives "G, H, I, J", and I only use "G". Is there a way to hide the other 3? Is there a way to change the drive letter(s)? Right clicking doesn't seem to give this option.
