It looks like you've gone through the same exact thing i did. the 9.8 drivers, although outdated, should have fixed your problems. if your looking for a recommendation... i would say try a new video card what worries me is if you had problems in xp, which is in my option is Microsoft most stable OS in which most drivers should work, then your problem may not have been a driver issue to begin with.

since my second post when i said the problem was fixed i have had no issues and my gfx cards have performed flawlessly. I'm still running the 9.8 drivers mainly because I'm too afraid to update and break it, why fix it if it ain't broke.

    Good Luck!

Best way to uninstall Video drivers (Ati-Nvidia)

First Download Driver Sweeper and install it.

    Phyxion.net | Home

Uninstall the Catalyst and drivers using the normal Ati Catalyst Install Manager and choise Express Uninstall.

Re-start the computer and hold down F8 (F9 in somes PC) and choise the first or second option and wait for Windows to open.

Run Driver Sweeper and select to erase all other Ati or Nvidia reference about, confirm and then restart.

Now you are clean to install the new drivers and Windows don't go to install his own drivers. Enjoy and sorry for mine bad English.
