Have you visited Windows Update and installed all of the critical and any of the optional updates?

You might want to install all of the drivers available at Toshiba for your laptop.

I called Toshiba support and they told me to do that as well, however it did not fix the problem. They basically told me that I need to stick with Vista. Unless you can think of anything else, I guess I am out of luck. Thanks for your help

Did you do an in-place upgrade, or is this a clean install? If it was an upgrade, consider doing a clean install. Upgrades often don't go as well as hoped.

    same problem

I have been upgrading a client's laptop with the same issue. (Satellite model M305-S4815)

3 out of 4 times, it boots without keyboard and touchpad activity.
Suspending and re-waking the pc will allow the keyboard to become active, but not the mouse.

External keyboard and mouse work fine.

Occasionally, after using the plugged-in mouse for a few minutes... I'll notice the touchpad will start working!

I have not tried any bios updates.
    - the fact that it starts working again after some time is frustrating... almost like there is a cold solder fracture somewhere that connects once it heats up or something like that.

    same problem

I have Toshiba Satellite M305-S4819 with the same issue.

The keyboard and touchpad freezes every alternate boot. Upon sleep and awakening the pc will allow the keyboard to become active, but not the mouse.
Sometimes the resolution of the screen gets lower .

I binged for more than 4-5 days and found only driver issues discussed, but the peculiar thing noticed upon my multiple clean installs of windows 7 ultimate was, it worked fine when it was clean with only few standard softwares like MS office etc..
I created new restore points (manual) were it seemed important, it made me create 4 restore points as such.
when i finally connected to internet, inspite of my windows update off, a critical update restore point (auto) was created but that update doesnt show up itself in the add remove programs (update installed).
This caused the K/B n mouse freeze and display with lower resolution alternately.

when i restored to my restore point (manual) every thing worked fine.:):)

Please folks, try this n let me know whether this is the root cause of all these issues in my system.
