    If that is the case, compgeek offered to attempt that download to find if it is specific to you or to everyone. He said he'd find the correct driver if he can. Very helpful.

    now all we can do is wait

    I'm trying the download now.. If it fails for me too, will let you know. Otherwise, i'll give you an alternate download link
    Thank you!

    Mine is still chugging along at a snails pace - nearly 1 hr and 20 mins later with only 2/3rds done. (This is like 'dial up days'!)

    Trying the download through IE is much quicker, but I'm hoping against hope that this way it will happen and not hang at 95% done.

    Slow download. But... IT WORKS! i ran the executable and it extracted files and opened to the HP prompt. I'm in the process of uploading to Dropbox (as well as running downstairs to get my laundry haha). Keep an eye and i'll edit and add a link to this post

    @dustsailor
    Thanks for the rep :)

    /* EDIT */
    fyi.. Dropbox estimates another 20 mins.... (I have the sloowwww but free Dropbox acct :) )
    If you still have a problem d/l from Dropbox, what's the quality of your internet connection? You d/l over LAN? Reset your router/modem as dustsailor recommended. Else try a friend's 'puter

    /* EDIT2 */
    The download is 182MB. p.s. Since i'm in the US, it's possible HP routed my d/l request to a different server then yours. So it's still possible the problem is on HP's side. In any case, HERE's the link. Hope this time it works!

    Well it worked, thank you, but there's still a problem :-(

    I was over the moon to see the image below, but the download isn't complete - the 'Solution Centre' and other crucial parts aren't there. All that downloaded was the HP update. This is very odd.

    I should have added....

    In the image above where it says 'Additional screens may appear to help you get started with your HP Photosmart C4500 series' I noticed that as soon as I pressed the 'finish' button, another similar HP screen flashed up for a nano second and disappeared. I reckon that's what's missing for me to continue with the install...

    After reading the thread below, I've come to the conclusion that I'll never get this sorted, as no one else has :-(

    I didn't realise there was a Windows scan function built into my laptop. It doesn't share the features that the HP scanner does, but I'll use that rather than spend another 20 odd hours trying to get my head around the awful HP software.

    Thank you folks for all your help

    Best regards

    I just had one more thought... Try the HP Diagnostic Tools. One time I couldn't get an HP scanner driver download to work but their tool managed to download the right s/w and fixed the problem for me

    Hope it might help you as well
