Looking at the Dell Website your Chipset Driver is rather old .. You could try an Update from the Intel Utility ..

Oh. I don't know it should matter, but just noticed I'm using a different link to Dell support for your model HERE then Gandalf's.

It won't hurt to update the chipset. But since devices are being recognized correctly, don't think it would be controller problem. The controller's portion of a Plug and Play install is done once device recognition is complete

Going from Post 1 that is when the trouble started because a Device was not recognized .. The program the OP had Installed may have caused some problems .. I do agree Updating the Chipset may not help .. TBH i can not think of much else to resolve the issue ..

    2) That looks like a Logitech mouse. Did you get it from Dell? Try the Logitech Mouse/Keyboard drivers are also on the Dell site (look under Keyboard & Input devices)
It's just an old mouse I've had for ages. It's always worked fine in the past. My problem seems to be that I can't get anything to work. I just plugged in my USB stick - doesn't work. Same thing for my external hard drive.

The link is currently not working. I'll try this later.

    1) Ugh. Dell site lists the web cam driver under Keyboard & Input Devices! (s/b under Video). Try the Quanta web cam driver
Installed the driver, rebooted, still not working.

Ahhh.... There may multiple and different problems here. Both USB sticks and external drives are USB storage devices. Your USB problem may specific to USB storage devices

So first, let's check the web cam. Did you install the WebCam driver? Check msinfo32 again. Does
    Laptop_Integrated_Webcam_2HDM USB\VID_0408&PID_2FB1\6&2B19AEDE&0&4 still appear?

This is probably what you need for USB 3.0 - but you might need other drivers as well (Chipset?)
    Renesas USB3.0 Host Controller Driver
    3/21/2012 v2.1.27.0, A03

Description: This package provides the Renesas USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver and is supported on XPS Notebook L702X/L502X that are running the following Windows Operating System: Windows 7.

Your USB 2.0 ports should work without the above driver though.

Maxie is excellent at finding the correct drivers, so I'll back out gracefully.
