No usb devices will install drivers

Not a dumb idea. Is a good observation and easy to try. I think separate issue from why the cam driver doesn't install - but absolutely worth a shot! :) The only 100% thing for certain about computers is there ain't NUTHIN 100% certain about 'puters :)

Does it match the other version number? (I hope so!) If yes, then copy the usbstor.inf and usbstor.pnf files in that folder to C:\WINDOWS\inf\.

Now, try inserting your new flash drive

The numbers matched, but my USB drive still won't work.
I'll come back to the thread tomorrow. It's getting late here.

I bet lots of people thought the horseless carriage was a dumb idea

Anyway, that's exactly what I thought too, except liverpaul would have to enable facap, Fast Access Video Capture... we can't :)

That might not start without the Integrated Webcam though. But it would tick something off the list.

Try this next
> Create a shortcut for taking ownership of a file. See HERE
> Right click C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\INFcache.1 select Take Ownership
> Delete INFcache.1. Reboot and try your usb flash again

Update:
Here's an updated view of my device manager with 3 things connected:
- USB flash drive
- External hard drive
- Optical mouse

Things are heading in the right direction:)

I've done that now. An earlier step fixed my USB flash drive, so I didn't notice that this step did anything.

Please add your SF Systems Specs by following this tutorial: System Info - See Your System Specs

In the System Manufacturer/Model Number field, manually type Desktop or Laptop adding it to the information already in the field.
Specify Custom Build as the manufacturer if it is not an OEM machine.
The tool does not fill in this information but it is very important if someone has to research drivers or hardware for your machine.

Log on to Sevenforums (SF) and let the tool fill in you System specs on your SF profile.

Full instructions are in the tutorial. It's a simple process and it makes that information readily available on your posts. You don't have to retype the information in any thread.

Click here to view your system specs on SevenForums.

Click on My System Specs in the lower left of any post by any member to see what is presented about their machine.

Mouse: uninstall the driver. You really only need the driver for special button configurations
If you identify the mouse, an SF member can help find the best driver.

It's most likely your touchpad on an internal USB port

I've updated my system specs using the steps you provided.
I do the other steps a bit later.

It seems to me that I am having to manually do everything, whereas I'd like to be able to get my computer to do that for me (like it used to do). I just plugged in my iPhone and I have the same problem. I wish there was a way to re-enable Windows' ability to do this automatically for me.

Trouble shooting 101: You opened a thread "No usb devices will install". Technically that issue is revolved and the thread should be marked solved.

Members offered additional help on other issues presented in the feedback you provided. You don't have to take any advice offered. In the course of correcting an issue, many other issues are often resolved. The real trick is to stay focused on the issue in the thread (I'm guilty of sending you down the other hardware fix path).

Trust me, there are a lot of things other members are doing to help solve the issues on your machine, so don't feel alone in "having to manually do everything". There are some drivers you have to manually install (chipset, Ethernet,...)

I think you meant that you'd like to just plug in a USB device and have it recognized.

So the new information given is that your iPhone isn't recognized when plugged into a USB port.

Everyone has given you some useful information, please review those posts and provide a recap of what you have done or not done.

This seems to be a cached driver or another db issue. Storage USB are fine now - other USB devices not so good. Need to think on this a little more.

Had a moment to look in on thread...

Wooo Hooo! Glad your USB storage devices are working again

Quick thing to try re: iPhone - uninstall, re-install itunes

You have a Logitech USB Optical mouse. I would leave the touchpad drivers alone.

Do you have an SD card inserted in your card reader? If not, insert one. Does the SD Host and JMCR Other device entries disappear? If not, the right click each->Properties and tell me the Device Status code of each (I only need the code #)
