Yup, it defaults automatically to Standard VGA when no NVIDIA drivers are present. When I try to update that, it says its the latest version.

Thanks! I have a question though. Since my laptop is HP and these are Acer Drivers, will I have do to a inf modification? From what I've gathered from some research, the SUBSYS is unique to laptop manufacturers?
I doubt it. If so, just pick a line in the .inf with your _0425 and delete anything after from the & and on. Basically, leave no subsys. Install by device manager if you have to pointing specifically to the .inf.
Right click standard VGA, choose Update driver software | browse my computer | let me pick | have disk | browse
I tried running the Setup, but it said "Nvidia could not locate any drivers for your system." I tried to update manually in the device manager, but it says its fully updated. One thing that caught my eye is that under "Display Adapters", only the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter is listed. There's no mention of the 8600M Graphics Card. Could this be a problem?

Ahh, I didn't go far enough to get me to be able to select actual .inf files. I only got to 'search folders/subfolders for drivers'. I'll give this a shot.
Ahh. Looks like that attempt went down in flames. Updated the drivers manually, but like before, during the restart it hung after the windows loading screen. However, when I selected the manual drivers, I noticed that there were multiple entries for the 8600M GS driver. I just picked the first one. Should I do otherwise? Nonetheless, now i'm beginning to think that my GPU is toast. (the 8600M series was known to have overheating issues).
No, you installed well going by your description.
I'm afraid that it sounds like when the integrated video is being "pushed" to work with correct driver, it fails. Meaning probably failed GPU.
One thing though. You said, "the computer will hang after the 'windows loading' screen and never reach the login screen"
When this hang or black screen occurs, try closing the laptop screen for 10 seconds or so and reopening it.
Yeah, it looks like this is the case. Device Manager is able to recognize that there is a graphics card but there's an error: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43). I thought of this possibility from the beginning and I was hoping there would be a fix. I guess it's time for this guy to get junked. Thanks for all your troubleshooting support torrentg!
