Trying to run Syscan TravelScan 660 in Windows7 x64

    Hi!

I was given a Travelscan 660 document scanner:

    USB portable scanner,color A6 Scanner,Syscan Travelscan 660 (TS660)

and the manufacturer (Syscan Inc) only provides drivers for Win9x/ME/2000/XP/Vista:

    Syscan Drivers Downlord,TravelScan 464 driver,TravelScan 660 driver,TravelScan 860 driver...

So I have tried with drivers for other scanners of the same brand with no success but finally obtained a bit of success altering the .inf file of the original driver.

I'm attaching the inf file I altered. You just have to download the original driver and replace the inf file with this one (removing the .txt extension)

The problem is this modification works but partially.

It installs a TWAIN driver and I have had success using the program Documalis Free PDF Scanner:

    Documalis | Free PDF Scanner

But this program only scans up to 300 dpi so it doesn't take advantage of the native 600 dpi of this scanner.

What's more, Photoshop CC x64 or Corel Draw X6 x64 can't detect the scanner. Also, I tried with ACDSee Pro 5 and it detects the scanner, opens the scanner interface and makes a scan, but then it gets frozen (I suppose waiting for the result that never gets to ACDSee)

It would be great if somebody with more knowledge can have a look to my modifications and find if something is wrong or even better, download the original drivers and alter them properly. And if the modification works also for Win8, even better.

In any case, if you have this scanner lying in a dark corner because you can't use it in Windows 7, my mod and the Documalis Free PDF Scanner will help. It is possible some other scanning programs will work too. Just let me know.

    Thank you

Recommend you try the Vista version of the driver.
Please post an image of your Device Manager after trying the Vista version.

As I already said, I tried the Vista version of the driver (the only one available officially).
I tried it as is, first of all using the installer. It installs the files in the system but does nothing.
Then using the Device Manager to update manually the driver but it says there is no compatible drivers there.
Finally I altered the inf file as indicated and then the Device Manager accepted it and the scanner appears as an option in Documalis Free PDF Scanner and also in ACDSee but it hangs ACDSee after performing a scan and I have to kill ACDSee using the Task Manager.
