    "Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Cont. Driver" Crash during installation

    I’m downgrading a ASUS N550LF-CN100H from windows 8 to windows 7 Pro x64.

    But when I try to install the driver "Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver" the system crash.

    I have installed the latest version of the BIOS (2.12) and changed some settings (for W7).
    - Boot -> Lunch CSM = Enabled
    - Security -> Secure Boot Control= Disabled

    I have tried with the driver coming from the Intel site and with "Driver Genius" (same driver).
    Do you have any advice to solve this issue because Asus doesn’t give any support for downgrade ?

    Thanks

    Did you try the support section of Asus to download drivers. See this link and change to your model

    Hi there ... I would check the Asus Website again as they do have Windows 7 Drivers ...

    Did you ever find a solution for this problem? Currently running into the same issue with the same setup.

    I am having the same issues. I've tried the drivers from Asus' site, and the ones from Intel's site. (They're the same.) It doesn't matter if I run the installer or tell device manger where to get the drivers, it always hangs while doing an install. I found this interesting tidbit on the Intel forums here: https://communities.intel.com/message/239511#239511 but I have no way to unlock my laptop's bios. This may help someone.

    My Solution

    I have the same issue. Thanks to the information provided by j8048188 https://communities.intel.com/message/239511#239511

    I can unlock the bios option and disable the XHCI Pre-Boot Mode. Then I can use my usb devices.

    On my ASUS Q550LF The detailed approach is as follows:
    Press F2 at when starting the computer to enter BIOS
    Under "Advanced" label choose "USB Configuration" then disable the option "XHCI Pre-Boot Mode"
    Return to the main BIOS
    Save the changes and exit

    Hope this works for you.
