Is it normal to pay for driver updates?

I found I couldn't use Quicktime and got a warning asking me to install Apple Driver Support. Apparently 29 drivers are out of date. They want money to fix them. I picked one, a keyboard from the device manager and tried to update the driver and that worked. I tried others that are supposedly out of date and was told the best driver's already installed. The only lack of functionality I have is Quicktime, probably because I mistakenly uninstalled something somewhere along the way... and a message that tells me there's not enough memory for my TV card and either get a new one or update the driver. I get that message rarely and ignore it. Is it normal to pay for a service to look at your drivers and update them? It seems a bit suspicious. Why wouldn't the seller want the buyer to be happy with his product and farm out his drivers to a third part for resale? Oh, if anyone knows how to get Quicktime working on my machine, that would be good too. I think my specs will be posted below.

No, do not pay for driver updates. Check the manufacture site for drivers. They usually have a support forum too.

If you are being asked to pay for driver updates, you've possibly been had--compromised, infected, invaded---by some program, probably accidentally.

    How's your anti-virus/anti-malware protection?

Quicktime has always been a pain in my experience. Have you considered "Quicktime Alternative"?

I have malwarebytes (paid) and norton antivirus. Quicktime is the only thing that gives me a headache. Never heard of the alternative. Thanks.

Couldn't find a driver for Quicktime at Apple but that's not surprising since it isn't hardware. Should I just remove Quicktime and try downloading it again?

It just occured to me that I use Video LAN to play MOV and other files like that... but to play some radio stations online,,, that's where it needed quicktime... I should go into the file associations and move all quicktime functions to VLC?

In my Opinion you are better off with VLC ,Quicktime is kind of featureless i haven't used it in over 15 years

I've never owned an Apple product. All I know about Quicktime is that it has been problematic in the past. I needed it to play MOV files at one time.

I got rid of Quicktime and use Quicktime Alternative. I've never missed Quicktime. I can't even remember what the problem with it was.

I have no idea if or why you may need Quicktime proper. Perhaps you do. But if you don't................
