    CPU Spikes (Interrupts/System:4)


    Hey all-

    I've had my Asus N53SM laptop for just over two years and over the past six months have had this horrible CPU Spiking. What exactly is happening is; there's this robotic sound, lag every second and then about fifteen seconds later it will disconnect my WiFi. It will continue for couple of minutes and soon fade away. However, if I troubleshoot my WiFi it will fix it. But then it'll just do it five minutes or less later!

    It is happening mainly when I'm on Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Also had it whilst just on Chrome listening to music and using Sony Vegas Pro 12. At first I could troubleshoot the WiFi then it'd fix it for weeks, then came back. It then got to the point of not fixing it for more than ten minutes and I would need to try restarting my PC. Now I'm barely able to use flight simulator for longer than an hour without it happening. The times I've had it outside the simulator, if I troubleshoot WiFi, it'll fix it pretty much for good.

    Yesterday I reformatted Windows 7 64bit and I got spiking for the first time about half hour ago on Chrome listening to music on YouTube. Opened up LatencyMon and it's got a red message saying: "Your system appears to be having trouble handling real-time audio and other tasks. You are likely to experience buffer underruns appearing as drop outs, clicks or pops. One problem may be related to power management, disable CPU throttling settings in Control Panel and BIOS setup. Check for BIOS updates."

    Before I reformatted, I tried reinstalling all the main drivers with no luck too. I was really hoping this fresh install would fix it.

    I do always have my PC on Asus' Power4Gear High Performance. Since I'm always between heavy programs here and there. Mainly for sim so I do not forget.

    Can anyone possibly help me out in tracking this down? So frustrating! Laptop is running so smooth and perfect without this. No scans are picking up any virus' or anything. Just seeing "Interrupts" and "System:4" being the main reasons in Process Explorer.

    IMO, using Chrome is your first mistake. Firefox works on my PCs.
    As for drivers, give this a try...

Hello! I have constant 8% CPU usage in Windows 7. It does not show up under any particular process in Task Manager. Resource Monitor says that it is System Interrupts. I suspect this is a driver issue -- is there a way to get more detail on what is sending interrupts to the CPU?
