    Nintendo WiFi USB adapter

Win7 sees the adapter right off the bat names it right but does not install drivers for it.

So I tried to use some hacked buffalo drivers that lets me create a softAP and open the adapter up to all devices. -on XP sp2

Seems the drivers are not valid for vista 64bit / win7

So I tried the latest drivers from Nintendo 1.7 and still no luck I try to run the software it says no drivers for my OS and I try to install it manually in DevMang.

Any one have a solution to this?

The chipset in the Nintendo Wireless USB dongle is Ralink 2500, I have it and use it as main wifi card for mutliple OS' (XP, Vista, 7) I have to tweak the Linksys WUSB54G V4(Ralink 2500) drivers to make it work with the Nintendo card in said OS' as an wireless client, you lose the capability of using it as an wifi AP though. Testing Win 7 with Vista and XP Linksys drivers, I have come to find the tweaked drivers are only stable if using the XP version for the OS, Vista version causes BSODs. Can do this tweak yourself by editing the *.INF file of the driver then manually installing after detection. 1.http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/...20051110,0.exe
    2.Extract zip to folder
    3.Nav to *:\WUSB54Gv4_20051110,0\WUSB54Gv4_20051110\Drivers\WUSB54Gv4
    4.Open rt2500usb.inf
    5.Copy and Paste this: %WUSB54Gv4.DeviceDesc% = WUSB54Gv4.ndi, USB\VID_0411&PID_008B
    under: [Linksys]
    ; DisplayName Section DeviceID
    ; ----------- ------- --------
6.Save file and install manually by navigating to folder where the INF is and your done.
7.If this is all too confusing you can grab my pre-tweaked tested working INF file, you can just overwrite the stock one with, in attachment.
8.If Microsoft enables requiring of Signed Drivers in future this technique breaks driver signing so may not work when Win 7 goes live.

I have tried to send feedback to Ralink and maybe I should try Buffalo too, in getting this device signed in compatible drivers so it has versatility and users can gain capabilities most cards do not have(softAP for instance) but all attempts have gone unnoticed. Think of the possibilities if it were true, signed softAP not just for Nintendo products, but to share internet with your buddies on the go with full WPA2 encryption support(not lame WEP that Nintendo uses), or a glorified wifi client with software support(WPS features).
    Good Luck

ok, i know this is an old topic, i read through "User11s" post, but i would like to use my Nintendo Wifi connector as a AP. is there a way i could use a virtual pc to do this, or will it fail miserably?

    Edit:
was thinking maybe the new "Windows xp mode" may help me?"

Windows XP mode will not give you direct access to the driver, AFAIK, b/c it is running inside Windows 7....

Of course, I may be wrong about this, but that is my understanding....

hey thanks for getting back to me, it works... ish, ive tried the vanilla drivers for the wifi connector with mixed results, the ds will connect to the device, and will register but cannot conect ot the internet (as is my understanding).
i am also in the process of installing the hacked drivers with an Asus program to manage the AP. cant detect the caess point at all... the VM connects to the net, as i can get google on the browser.

Hmm, I got mine working using VMWare.

But when you did it in XP Mode - does it only work when you're running XP Mode? Or can you create a shortcut and just run the software for the SoftAP within Windows 7 native?

The problem I had was it couldn't connect to the Internet in XP Mode, something with how Virtual PC handles ports. VMWare made it work, though.

yes i can have a link to it, but no its not native. the link "unhibernates" the XP VM and then runs the required progs.
i had a bit of a problem with the internet at first, just had to change the internet setting in the VM to shared connection and set static ip and such.
