BSOD trying to install Sapphire HD5450 Graphics Card

Someone gave me a machine which is a dell 755 sff, I decided to upgrade my graphics with a low profile sapphire HD5450.

I installed the drivers on the copy of windows 7 which worked fine, I later found out that the copy of windows was not geniune, so I purchased a geniune copy, when I installed the drivers on this copy, now I get BSOD when detecting card.

I downloaded the latest drivers and still no joy.

Did you install the motherboard chipset drivers? Generally, Windows 7 will install those, but not always the case.

When I worked Dell's forum the standard Dell install sequence is (1) Install Windows (2) Install Dell Desktop (or Laptop) System Software (3) Install motherboard chipset drivers (4) Install device drivers including video, sound, etc.

The sound is another issue, if it is Win 7 compatible Window will have installed the generic basic function High Definition Audio Codec (drivers). In most cases with Dell you need the Dell provided sound driver for proper operation.

Here is the link to the Dell drivers for the OptiPlex 755, Vista 64 bit, which are Windows 7 compatible.
There are 3 chipset drivers listed, download and install the Intel motherboard chipset drivers first.

There is an Analog Devices sound driver listed, but it is ONLY for Windows XP and that is NOT compatible with Vista/Windows 7. If Windows did not install the HD Audio Codec, you may be out of luck with the sound unless you use a separate sound card that is Win 7 compatible.

ok problem solved if anyone else on here has the same issues this is what to do, install windows 7 and do system updates first, the driver then works cool, I am happy now. thanks
