Reinstalled Windows 7 and Internet Not Working

    Hi All -

Computer was running slow and buggy so reinstalled Windows 7. Appears the graphics and ethernet drivers did not install. The ethernet card driver is the Atheros 9.2.0.470 which I downloaded on a flash drive on another machine (or so I thought) and brought to the machine on which I did the fresh install. In one version of the driver, obtained from the Atheros website, I see 3 files, athretx (type security catalog), athrx.sys (type System file), and netathrx (type Setup Information).

The netathrx (Setup Information) file is not instructions, it looks like source code or something close to it. I'm not sure how to install these files???

I also found another "installer" on the Atheros website but the installer requires the internet (???) - so an ethernet driver installer requires the internet...

Anyone have any ideas? I've never had so much trouble installing an ethernet driver before

It is a Dell XPS 8500. I am fairly confident I downloaded the correct driver - I just do not know how to install it!

Thanks Maxie. I actually found a separate disk of drivers. Is it true that there is one driver for a given computer model? Is it not the case that one model could have one of several different network cards? Is the driver not specific to the network card?

    Thanks again for the help

Most welcome .. Drivers usually come on Disc for the Model you have purchased ..

But you should not really use them as they are out dated ...

Its best to go to the Manufactures Website for your Drivers ..

Or even better run Windows Updates ..

But in your case you need the Lan Driver to get on the net ...
