Windows 7 not reading device connected through Firewire

I have a Samsung MiniDV cam which I'm trying to connect to my laptop using a 4-pin firewire cable but when I connect it nothing happens. I tried updating the IEEE 1394 driver to the Legacy one and the Ricoh one but still no luck.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.

Dell doesn't show any drivers for Win7, only for WinXP and Vista 32-bit.

I've found over several years that if Dell doesn't have the drivers they may not be available elsewhere. My oldest Dell is a Latitude D810 and I got a new Inspiron 15r a few months ago. But then I've run into the same issues with other brands of Notebooks, Gateway doesn't even list my Pavilion M6888u from 2009.

The cam is Samsung VP-D381.

And no it's not listed in Device Manager at all.

I've also looked in the Dell drivers section for Windows Vista because most of the drivers work with Windows 7 as well but I can't find any for IEEE 1394.

If i were you I would try going directly to the Samsung support site to see what driver(s) they might have that may work for your firewire connection.

It is only the Controller Driver for the Firewire ... Windows has the Driver for the IEEE 1394. .. Could be a faulty Cable ...

Ejecting Firewire Device
I routinely get the "This device is currently in use" message when I try to eject an external drive from my Win7 64-bit OS. I have no idea what program might be accessing the drive to cause that message. How do I find out? I can, of course, reboot, but that shouldn't be necessary. This message...
