Thanks for all of your suggestions. I tried everything and I am at a loss as to what to do. What appears to have happened is that my computer doesn't recognize that there is a DVD player and I can't find any driver or software upgrade that change this. I spoke to Acer and they said I was SOL as the computer was meant to run on Vista. If anyone has any other suggestions.

I honestly don't know how to upgrade BIOs and I searched for firmware everywhere. You are to down load Nero Info tool but that won't download properly so I can't use that method. I don't know what else to do. Any other suggestons would be appreciated.

If I were you I would totally uninstall Nero - use a tool to get rid of it - try the free

Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Uninstall Software, Remove Programs, Solve uninstall problems

Check in the registry to get of any filters it has left behind.

Find The Vista Drivers and install those using Compatibility Mode.

I don't understand exactly what you mean. The CD works, but the burner does not ? Please give more details what you are trying to do ?

Yes the DVD is now recognized and it is working and reading DVDs but the NTI CD & DVD Maker doesn't work. I just read the microsoft update that I used to fix the DVD recognition problem and after I changed the filters apparently that is one of the results is that one might not be able to burn a CD. I am going to leave well enough alone!

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

There are many other burning programs available

A lot are Shareware or Freeware, depending what & how you want to burn a CD or DVD

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

try this link, it really helped me. I followed the instructions and my DVD Ram is now working. I downloaded a DVD burning software and my computer is running just great.
