You indeed should just need the drivers from Canon's website.

If things specific to Windows 7 are missing, the ones for Vista x64 should normally work too.

Canon offers a printer driver ADD ON! First step is to install printer driver via Windows Update!

Having the same problem, but with the IP4000. Driver disc won't work b/c an error comes up about it supporting only 32-bit, not 64.

SillyMan, how do you install the printer driver via Windows Update? I don't see where this is possible. Sorry, I just got a new computer with W7 a few days ago and I'm not fully familiar with it. Thanks!

I hope you have better luck with your printer driver. I have a little old BJC-4000, bought it in 1994 and it still works great until Windows 7. After numerous hours of searching for drivers I contacted and actually spoke with a tech from Cannon. Cannon is not providing updated drivers for some of there really old printers, like my BJC-4000.

    I have the ip4000

I downloaded the Win7 drivers from Canon and installed them before I first plugged the printer in.

As soon as I plugged it in it searched for the Canon drivers, found them, and all is working OK.

Same thing with my Lide 60 scanner.

I think you must install the drivers before plugging in the device otherwise you will need to remove the device (device manager) and get it to rescan for drivers.
