All USB controllers/devices not finding drivers

    In post# 16 - try creating a new user profile and logging in with that ID.

    I didn't see that tried.

    Also download DevManView: Alternative to device manager of Windows

    Change the options to include a header, save as a CSV file and post the output.


    are there any devices in the Other Device section of Device manager - if so, post a screen shot and also post any error code on the general tab for each device.

    I'm calling it a night, but I haven't given up yet. I'll look at the information tomorrow.

    Sorry, yes I tried to create a new user but no luck there.

    I am having some results with the usb drivers. It looks like there is something corrupt in the stack. After uninstalling and rebooting, here is the application log from trying to install the new driver. I know the copy and paste is a bunch of jumbo but if I remove all drivers, remove the drivers and pointers in the registry they work till the stack is loaded.

    I can't find anywhere to have windows repair it's stack.

    Also I have an SFC log that I can't interrupt that might help.

    Here is the DevManView csv and a picture of the device manager with the controllers and the errors. The picture on the left is the one where I tried to install the driver. It looks like the computer recognized the driver but can not find the file to use it. I know the file is there, I have have also download and extracted the file several times.

    even after it locates the driver on the left, it stays in the other devices as the same name. Not the name of the actual device.

    Thanks cyrus,

    I was thinking along the same lines as you, roll back to base drivers.

    Start with the USB devices, the your chipset devices
    -roll back the driver until you're at the MS base driver.

    If you have to uninstall the driver, make sure you remove software for the device or else Windows will scan for device changes, find the software and re-install it.

    Your screen shot shows the Intel enhanced controller with a (2) - this means that there is another instance of the driver defined in the current control set.

    Are you comfortable editing the Registry? Always export the Registry before making any changes
    Also create a Restore Point before making any changes to the registry.

    I got side tracked with a few things and will probably be sidetracked for the next few days. I still have to read the devman view - thanks for that.

    The plan is to roll back the drivers, uninstalling if necessary, and see if (when) the USB ports work - this is a step-by-step approach
    Roll back a driver, test ports, roll back another driver, test ports - it's tedious but it's all that I can think of without doing a Clean Install.

    You have to be careful not to uninstall a driver that you need for Remote Desktop. I don't know what might be related to that other than your Ethernet controller - the base MS driver should be sufficient for those purposes.

    While you rollback the drivers, I'll read more of your attachments ... and I'll be helping other members with other issues and helping a friend set up Windows 10 - in other words ... I'll be in and out (more out) on your thread.

    Do your video card driver towards the end - the base MS driver is low resolution.

    You have a path - see how far that takes you. If the ports still don't work after you've rolled back EVERY driver, I'll have to come up with some other idea(s).

    Don't be tempted to re-install any driver - something is stepping on the USB and I'm not sure what it is - so strip it down, then build it up.

    Also make sure you're test device (mouse or KB) is attached to a USB 2.0 port.
