FS232R USB UART Driver - Not installing

    Hi,

I have recently tried to install my USB to DMX Converter which is a FT232R USB UART converter. I have installed the driver from the FTDI chip website and this installs fine and windows says it is installed. However when I plug in my converter the driver is not found and it appears with an exclamation mark next to the device in the Device Manager... Has anyone got any advice for fixing this as I really need this sorted for mid march time at the latest

Any help will be really appreciated

You could try a complete reinstall.

Go to the Device Manager, with the device attached to the PC, RIGHT click on the entry for the Device to Highlight it and then LEFT click Uninstall. Also uninstall the drivers. Disconnect the unit and then restart the PC. This will give you a clean start to try and install it.

If the drivers are Win 7 compatible, Install the drivers and do not connect the unit until either the driver installation tells you or until the driver installation has completed. If the drivers are older drivers, e.g. for Win XP, install them in the Compatibility mode (for XP) and see if that helps.

On an unrelated note, I see you have Win 7 64 bit OS but only 4GB of RAM. The main reason for using a 64 bit OS is that it addresses and uses more than the basic 4GB of RAM. In fact a 64 bit OS uses more of the available RAM for the OS than a 32 bit, thus leaving you less for programs. Consider upgrading to at least 6GB of RAM and 8 would even be better if the PC will accept that much. With a light controller I assume you are a DJ or controlling lights for shows with this system. I have a recording studio and I use more than 4GB of RAM at time for recording (I use Sonar Platinum).

Yep you are right in thinking I use the PC for controlling lighting using freestyler DMX but it is also my main PC so I am intending on upgrading to 8gb very soon. Unfortunately I have already tried re-installing the driver and it does not make any difference even after installing the driver correctly
