    DVD Read/Write Quit Working

    CD RW Problem
My Dell Optiplex 3010 originally had Windows 8 but I had it replaced with Windows 7. When I got it back it seemed to OK but then the CD/DVD stopped working and does not appear on Devices. When I use the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooting tools
Problem detected with PLDS DVD+-RW DS-8A9SH Device

A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality –(Code 32)

    What's does this mean?

Assuming its still listed in the Device Manger, try the Uninstall/Reinstall.

Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the Entry for the drive to highlight it and then LEFT click "Uninstall". No need to uninstall the driver as the ONLY drivers for CD/DVD drives is the default built in Windows driver. Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the drive. This usually fixes the problem.

If that does not fix it, reinstall the Intel Motherboard Chipset drivers and see how that goes. One of the things the chipset drivers do is identify all the devices on or attached to the motherboard. You can get the driver from the Dell downloads

If you still have the problem after above instructions, download/run Filter Load Order tool. Select the CD/DVD device, click the Clipboard button. Paste the result into your next post

    CD DVD Fix

    hkeys location

The following is Thanks to 1geron which he posted 1AUG2009
you have to go to the search box at the start button and type in regedit.
then navigate your way to the hkeys that are related to the dvd/cd drivers. and then erase both the "upper and lower string data, field info" only erase where it says upper field and lower field. I am not remebering the exact path to the strings right now off hand though.

    check this out:

Windows 7 DVD Drive Not Working or Missing Registry Fix – Solution 2

1 Click Start, and then click All Programs.
2 Click Accessories, and then click Run.
3 Type regedit, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
4 In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    5
    6 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
7 In the right pane, click UpperFilters. You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 8.
8 On the Edit menu, click Delete.
9 When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
10 In the right pane, click LowerFilters.
11 On the Edit menu, click Delete.
12 When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    13 Exit Registry Editor.
    14 Restart the computer.

I only found LowerFilters but this fixed my CD DVD & Portable DVD Writer USB type. I
have a picture of Directories if this helps anyone. Again thanks to 1geron
