Right click on the speaker icon on the task bar, select 'Volume Control Options', does it say what mine does?

You must have the specific driver for your card installed

Here is your driver from Asus's website:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
Just click on 'download', then 'audio'
Click on global to download

No, indeed you can't.

When you plug something in the back, the circuit for the front is disconnected, and vise verse.

It's disconnected by hardware so you can forget finding a software solution for it.

What you can do is connect the speakers to the green output at the back,
and only put the pink from the headset in the pink input at the front.

In that case you will be able to speak through the headset and hear yourself on the speakers.
Not to loud though, or you'll get feedback.

When you plug in the green (or black) plug of the headset in the front, the speakers are disconnected, as it is with most audio devices.

Greetings.

Are you using the ports on the front or at the back of your pc?

If you are using the front ports, check if the cable inside your computer which connects your sound card to the front ports is properly connected
These cables are not usually connected by default.

Headsets are normally plugged in the green jack

Hi SLE, welcome to the forums

I think the key issue is that it wasn't working before 7, so it is looking like a hardware problem. Have you checked your connections to the Motherboard?

Also, in case it is software, have you tried to uninstall Cooledit to see if it works again? That way we can zero on the cause

From the Adobe site, Cooledit is an old version of Adobe Audition, are you sure it didn't' roll back any driver? Have you tried to install the drivers after you installed Cooledit?
