That's a "virtual" device. I'd guess you used to have some tuneup utility software installed then uninstalled it. The uninstaller removed the driver but not the virtual device that was created during the install

Right click the Unknown device->Uninstall. If it's really a physical h/w device it would be re-detected and reappear after reboot.

    Unknown device

    My dear sir/madam:

    1. I used to have AVG PC Tune-up 2015 installed but it got on my nerves with all its pop-ups and I revo-uninstalled it.
    2. I uninstalled the unknown device as you recommended from the device manager and rebooted.
    3. The reboot took a little longer than normal but everything is where it is supposed to be: desktop icons, network, Thunderbird, etc.
    4. In the device manager the "other devices/unknown device" is gone after reboot.
    5. In "devices and printers", the yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark is gone from my computer's icon.

I don't know how to thank you enough. This old geezer owes you one (which sounds rather idiotic on the internet).

    Regards from Ottawa, Canada.
