I have the problem shown in another post i.e. my W7 computer cannot upgrade to W10 - This is not very helpful to anyone with little knowledge of computers. It seems to be NVIDIA but what now? Drivers for 7 or 10 or ??? - I'd appreciate some simple suggestions please. My W7 is working just fine so I really don't need 10 but if it's a simple transfer, okay, cheers
tried Windows Repair Tool without success - seemed to want me to register, pay for the drivers, etc., by then i got tired of reading and clicking so am still none the wiser - I would've thought drivers from MS would be free ??
If you are being asked to pay for drivers, I'm wondering if you are in fact being scammed. That doesn't sound like what I'd expect to see when running a legit Windows Repair disc.
What EXACTLY is "Windows Repair Tool" and where did you get it?
Don't know what the update to 10 problem is. You're probably best to go to the sister Windows 10 forum and make a post there.
We are in the very early days of upgrades, so there are some issues.
However the "free upgrade" will be valid till next July, so there is certainly no rush to do anything.
Generally, this is the procedure:
Download the Windows 10 ISO and get it onto some type of bootable media--either a USB thumb drive or a burned DVD.
Boot from that media on your current Win 7 PC and do an "upgrade install". Confirm that the new install is also activated.
If it is activated, you could then do a "clean install" of Windows 10 using the same bootable media, BUT THIS WOULD BE OPTIONAL AND NOT REQUIRED.

That's a common problem with legacy Nvidia GPUs, the Windows 10 upgrade app will blacklist any ancient graphics adapter if it finds an outdated WDDM driver. The entire GeForce series 6/7 was discontinued and the last driver branch was still based on the Vista WDDM 1.0 codebase, reason for which it's blocking the W10 installation.
You can skip the compatibility check by downloading the Windows 10 ISO file manually from Microsoft, run the setup but skip the update/online check then install the 309.08 driver. Do NOT use the automatic Windows 10 upgrade tools (includes the GWX/Get Windows 10 app, Windows Update and the official download tool) if you've got legacy hardware.
Those GPUs are over 8 years old and are thus consider ancient. Nvidia won't ever release any Windows 10 drivers for their DX9 hardware nor will they officially support it under Windows 10. Consider getting a decent modern graphics card if you want proper drivers/support.
