    nope, the card is dead.
    I went through the uninstall utility again... safe mode, run the tool, reboot and... "Windows failed to install device drive..."
    So the bloody AMD driver wasn't there, I installed the Intel one and run Windows update: I looked for the inevitable Radeon HD update and hide it, run the other updates, reboot and things are working fine.
