Change Standard Vga Graphics Adapter

Ok, So after looking through several forums, not any could help me out really, so here is what I did that worked for me... Im using a gateway T-1680 laptop. I upgraded to W7 of course and cannot see my ATI Radeon X1270. As a standard I went to the support site for gateway and I could not find any W7 drivers for any application or hardware on my laptop. Long story short, I took a chance... I downloaded the lastest driver for my video card on the list, which in this case was a 32bit Vista (im on 32bit W7) and it extracts into a cab folder in C: directory. I launched the setup and bam! Installed and configured my graphics card. Now I look in device manager and I see my ATI recognized!! Hope this helps dudes!

Windows 7 Ultimate x32

Hi there!I saw this post and was hoping I could I could please receive some help.I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate x32.I had Windows XP previously, and before everything was running fine and my video card was working right. My video card is a Nvidia GeForce GT 420 and now when I go to the device manager it appears as Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

I went the website and downloaded the recent drivers for my card, but when I try to search my computer for the Nvidia software it says the current Software for the standard VGA Graphics Adapter is up to date.I was not aware of this problem until I tried to play The Sims 2 and it was told me my Video Card is not compatible.I know a little about computers, but this is something new to me.My Desktop is an HP Pavilion a410e .Any help would be very appreciated, thankyou!!!

Hi am haveing a simular problem. Set up my PC as a dual boot XP & windows 7 ultimate on two seperate hard drives. I had an Nvidia G Force 8400 graphics Card. Every thing on the XP hard drive worked fine including the graphics card. I booted into windows 7 ultimate & it automaticly installed standard vga driver. I tried to play solitire & an error came up telling me my graphics accelerator was not working or disabled. I went to the nvidia sight & downloaded the newest windows 7 driver. I forgot to mention that before I did anything I ran the windows 7 compatiabilty check up & it said that my home built PC was compatiable. After I downloaded the win.7 driver my problems got worse. My video would be very erratic & some times just go to a black screen & was unable to restart or shut down my PC. I had to force shut down the PC to get it back. Then the same thing would happen again. I restarted in safe mode & uninstalled the video card & drivers. After this I was able to restart my pc with no problems. as soon as it started it reinstalled the standard vga driver. But I was not able to shut down or restart the PC with out forceing it to do so. So I figured I had a bad graphics card? I went to Tigerdirect & purchased a Visiontek 5450 card with ATI GPU. Guess what I ran into the exact same problem. Again it works fine in XP mode but not in win. 7. Am just abouy at my witts end . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Download the driver here and save it to your hard drive first.

Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

When you've saved it, right-click the installer and choose Run as Administrator then the Custom install option.

This will uninstall the old driver and clean install the new one.

As far as I'm aware, your graphics card is not compatible with Windows 7, but there is a beta driver available for the 32-bit version.

Check here: GeForce Release 181

I tried the beta driver on the nvidia card to no avail. How ever I no longer have the nvidia card installed. I have the visiontek 5450 installed & still have the same problem.
