Windows Driver Foundation User-mode Driver Framework service is Manual
Hi,
All of a sudden the Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework service is set to Manual in Services.
I clean installed Windows 7 a few weeks ago and my system is clean (as far as clean goes) as in only 15 programs installed (of which 5 x NVIDIA). I use this computer for work and I don't want anything else.
I checked that service and a few weeks ago it was set to Automatic.
My questions are:
1. Any idea what may have caused this value to change? I'm pretty sure this is related to a USB drive.
2. Could it be the case if you install an old USB drive it somehow messes up the value?
3. What does this do anyway? I read on Black Viper it manages user-mode driver host processes:
User-mode driver framework is a method of having drivers ran in “user space” instead of “kernel space.” This provides better system stability due to a situation of a driver crashing, it only brings down the driver and not the system. Such possible devices include cameras, media players, PDA’s and other USB connected devices.
4. Should I set it back to Automatic or leave it as is?
Thanks in advance!
