Kathy has an excellent point, only an OEM disc by the manufacturer of the PC that came with the pc will add oem software and pics and what not.

Your bios is a different matter, that pc will always show a Lenovo splash screen, because it`s a Lenovo made product.

If you have a key and COA, you`d be better off downloading an iso file and creating your own Windows 7 install dvd.

As far as your usb stick not being recognized, are you plugging it into a black usb 2.0 slot ?

USB 3.0 slots will not work until after windows 7 has been installed and the usb 3.0 drivers have been installed.

With windows 8 and 10 they work from the get go.

Yes, faXcooL Win7 does that. Try installing on an MSI laptop and it will say MSI with a matching wallpaper, that's how I realized you unfortunately got a bootleg.

The best path is to download a genuine ISO and use the product key stuck on your ThinkPad.

Guess what I found after a virus scan!

I want a genuine one (iso) but Microsoft won't give me the ISO. I want one from a highly trustworthy source. I'm also unsure if it'll let me activate it using my product key since my key is not for the retail versions.

the link I posted is fine, we`ve checked it out.

    Your key will work.

An oem disc and a retail disc are the same thing, only the key is different. (Not to be confused with a manufacturer branded oem disc) which are pretty much extinct.

Install utorrent to download it, if you want to put it on a usb stick, use this program, if you have a dvd burner, then burn iso file to dvd with the program I linked above at no faster then x4 speed (important)

Well, how did you get out to the net using Ubuntu ?

It has your ethernet card drivers and windows doesn`t ?
Every time I booted any machine using Ubuntu live discs, the machines were fully functional. Mic, Webcam, Wifi, everything. They also work really well. Windows didn't have even the usb drivers!

I have installed windows on other systems before and it seemed to have some type of basic drivers for things like wifi. I had to replace them for better drivers but still! They let me use the internet to get all the updates and drivers.

It's not that simple. I did the job quickly using ThinkVantage System Update software. That software recognizes my machine and automatically gets the correct drivers for all the parts. Are these drivers saved somewhere though? Couldn't I copy paste them in that case?

And you should at minimum, make a small partition to store a disk image on, so you don`t have to do any of this ever again.

Unless of course that hard drive/ssd dies.

    Any questions, just ask :)
I have no recovery partitions. Only C drive for windows and D for my files. Is it possible to make a partition now? I guess I could always make a restore disc.

If you want to help, can you please let me know your take on this thread of mine?
Other systems are not this system.

    Thinkvantage Update Software ?

Where were you when that member was begging for a driver update program ? LOL

You can always create another partition to store an image on.

Post a shot of Disk Management if you ever get this fixed.
ThinkVantage Update software comes with ThinkPads. It helps with automatic download of everything my particular model needs to run.

I don't know who was looking for a driver update program. If they owned a ThinkPad, and if their machine fell within the minimum specs needed to run that software, they could use it. It's not a universal one software updates all machine thing. It's made for ThinkPads by Lenovo.

Activators/keygens/cracks usually return a false-positive in virus scans. Se7enForums does not encourage piracy so you may want to stay away from that copy. :)

Did you check AddRAM's links? There are torrents from DigitalRiver where you can get genuine/untouched Win7 ISOs. If you're comfortable with it, you can post a photo of your COA (just grey out the product key/identifying numbers) so members can better direct you to the Win7 version you need to download.

You should really consider uninstalling AVG, it`s absolute garbage.

Microsoft Security Essentials and Malware bytes Anti-Malware are all you need.

Use the link I posted to download the version of Windows 7 you need, language and bit version (32 or 64) etc.

I`m sure your pc came with Home Premium Service Pack 1 64 bit.

Will, I have that windows sticker under my laptop's battery. what is a COA? Certificate of Authenticity? If by that you mean the physical sicker, then yes I do have it. The key is printed ON the sticker under the first bar code. Its something like this:

    Windows 7 Pro OA
    Lenovo Singapore
    BARCORE
    Product key: xxxxxx-x--x-x--x....whatever
    BARCODE
    xxxxx-xxx-xxx-xxx

It also has other numbers here and there with a line printed on the side saying "Certificate of Authenticity Label......"

I have 2 USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port and another USB/eSata port (discovered that I have this just today :P ). I tried the USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports and none of them were working. I went to device manager and the whole damn thing was yellow with those exclamation marks.

You seem totally new at installing windows, but, whenever you install windows, you have to install the drivers afterward.

Windows comes with a lot of drivers, but not all of them.

Could you imagine an installer with a bunch of drivers you didn`t need, the dvd would be huge.

Here`s another link, but I`ve never used it. Just book mark it.

    Home Page

An example is an nvidia graphics card, after you install windows you have to go to nvidia.com to download the latest drivers, same goes for an AMD card.

Every piece of hardware on a pc needs a driver to talk to the Operating Sytem and tell it how it works.

Without a driver it`s like driving a vehicle without a map

I will begin downloading AddRam's suggested copies. It just takes a while from here. My dl speed is in the kilobytes. About the piracy bit: I actually lose by selecting the pirated copy since I already paid for the genuine thing.

I know that I need Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. That's what I always had and that's what my COA says too. :) Even though I don't need to, I checked the email they sent me years ago when I ordered the machine, the email says the same as I'm saying. :)

AVG is garbage? MSE is better? really? I can't believe that.

You're wrong about the Home Premium thing. Mine came with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

P.S. Which one should I download? With or without SP1? There seems to be 2 variants of the 64 bit W7Pro (english). I think mine was Service Pack 1. I remember filling out the system specs thing for this forum, we can see on under my avatar that it was SP 1.

    Does that make a difference?

I was going to put Pro also, but 99% of pc`s come with HP.

Of course MSE is better it`s made by Microsoft, AVG is pure garbage, I used it years ago.

You can trust a Computer Technician or not :)
