Do I install new Chipset drivers on my PC that runs perfect??

Hey folks. I have an older HP/PC that I bought some years back and then installed my own HW (b/c I didn't feel like installing an OS buying a case and MB/CPU combo)

Anyway it runs great NO issues but i'm a little leary on installing the latest an greatest.. I've read threads about YES def. install newest Chipeset drivers and others saying NO if its not broken then don't fix it what do some of you guys suggest?

Here's the drivers I would install:

amd-catalyst-15.7.1-sb-sata-ahci-win10-win8.1-win7.exe

My specs:

OS: Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 840T 2.90Ghz

Motherboard: N-Alvorix-RS880-uATX (Alvorix)

Memory: Corsair DDR3 16GB

Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX970

Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium

Monitor: Displays LG- 42' LCD

Power supply: Corsair CX850M

Hi,
If you're using a dedicated gpu = graphic's card it does all the graphic's work
The chipset mostly does on board graphic's work which is disabled when a real gpu is installed.
So to your inquiry updating it is not really needed.

There are probably other drivers you could check into though
All would be listed on the manufactures website if you search the computers model or even the snid which is what I always use it shows every thing installed.

the latest chipset driver package is Crimson Edition 15.12 12/17/2015---> Here

i am using this package on 7 64bit ultimate and am having no issues and have sucessfully integrated them with NTLite and the usb3 drivers into the boot wim too

whether you need this new package if your pc is stable depends how you are about keeping up to date

One reason for updating any file on a perfectly running PC would be to replace files that have been identified as a security risk. If the info regarding the driver says that the reason for the update is to patch a security hole, then you may want to install it.

Other than that I adhere to the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" rule.

Cool i've done that I seem to be all updated. I bought it brand new and just did my own stuff. I been building PC's for ever and got lazy on this one

Great thx for the info. I'll DL them and keep them handy.

FWIW manufactures do not release new chipset drivers all that often
