    Need help with updating drivers

hi. ive used driver agent for a scan. following drivers r out of date:
    1) Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller (new driver would be from 28/10/2014)

    2) Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller
found some here Qualcomm/Atheros AR81xx Serie (L1) Drivers Version 2.1.0.17
but the inf file couldnt be found or there was none (supposed to be version 2.1.0.17)
    also here: https://www.atheros.cz/atheros-inf-f...et=47&system=6
i dont know how to use it since theres no inf file included

could u plz privide me with download links and instrction on how to use it? thx a lot

Driver updates programs are no good and not needed.

Just use Device Manager to update drivers, if it says you have the latest, you`re fine.

i wish it was that easy. ive had version 1.0.018 and just succesfulld updated to 1.0.0.22 by installing it manually from this link https://www.atheros.cz/atheros-inf-f...et=47&system=6
there r supposed to be newer versions though. that hardware manager wouldnt "find" anything and would always say everything wld b up to date. even my graphics driver which IS out of date (im aware of it n might update if necessary) wont get updated. why is it that i always get some generic unhelpful asnwers in these forums?

The general feeling amongst us is "if it ain't broke, don't fixit" plus many driver update programs can be problematic.

That said, if you do use a driver update program IMHO see what it says need updating then try the Device Manager update first. If that doesn't help, go find for the update yourself on the vendor site. With limited exception, I don't trust the driver links provided by the programs.

    All that said ....... :)
What's the actual Atheros model number you have??? ARnnnn. Fill in the nnnn digits. The driver links you provided look, to me, they're actually for different chips. p.s. Your first link works for me. It takes me to the driver package, including the inf, so not sure why you have a problem. But let's start by identifying your Atheros chip. If not sure provide its Hardware IDs. In Device Manager right click Properties->Details. Select Hardware IDs from the pull down. Copy/paste result

it says "Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller"(details tab).
how did u make the files form the 1st link work? one of those would b a lot better.

Going by names, that first link is not a match anyway. It show me its for a different set of ARxxxx chip model names.

But the second link looks like a matche. Maybe you missed the download link embedded in the inf display. That, in turn, took me HERE where you can download the most recent.

POINT OF NOTE: I'm only helping you follow those links. They LOOK like legit driver files but I can't vouch for the driver the link provides

i didnt miss the link since ive used it to update the driver as stated in my quote.
theres still the question whether that is the latest driver available.
