This just showed up!? "VulKan Runtime Library 1.0.11.1"

Sorry, I didn't know if I should post this here or under Software.

I use SnagIt for my screenshot captures. I often go into the SnagIt Editor, which is done by right clicking on the icon in the Notification area. The other day I got the bright idea to put the SnagIt Editor on the Quick Launch bar. I figured this would be a good time saver.

Windows, surprisingly, took a fairly long time to do so instead of the usual drag-n-drop quickness. While doing so, a bunch of little popups kept popping up but so fast I couldn't read them.

Afterwards, I noticed that "VulKan Runtime Library 1.0.11.1" was installed in the process.

I contacted SnagIt Tech Support and they said it's not related to SnagIt and they don't know why VulKan was installed.

Anybody have an idea what ValKan is and why it got installed in this manner?

    Should I be concerned?

    Hi,
That came bundled with the NVidia driver and yea it was not listed in the custom installer either :)
I at first thought it was malware.

Vulkan is safe although I'm surprised it didn't ask you to install it first.
I don't know a great deal about it, but it's sort of an up-and-coming alternative to MS DirectX, but Vulkan also supports Linux too. I'm no GPU expert though.

    Hi,
Yea it just showed up on the start menu list as a new program is the first I saw of it
Clicking it really doesn't open anything but a cmd windows for a brief second which was a tad disturbing
So I restored an image and found out where it had came from freaking sneak in from NVidia
I'm still on 362.00 the last version without vulkan.

I don't think it'll cause any issues if installed, they're probably including it with the latest nVidia drivers for future compatibility. It sounds like it'll be an interesting development as I've heard it being mentioned a few times.

Because DirectX 12 is Windows 10 exclusive only, Vulkan could be used as an alternative for older OS and Linux.

It should be okay, I think it's been in development for a while. But hey, when it comes to GPU's my knowledge isn't that great!

I still run a Sapphire HD7770 so that just shows what I know! I'm not a massive gamer though, I never run any games maxed out. As long as I can see things on my screen, I'm happy.

    Hi,
On my acer I indeed do not have or need it so I'm still on 362.00
On my asus I have it but I guess NVidia has changed the way it shows up
It does not list on the start menu but does in uninstall a program so I guess it was just the first release showed on the start menu as a new program which I doubt I would classify it as a program in the normal sense

Thanks for the replies :) - It's still a little strange that it got installed right at the moment I was putting something on Quick Launch area. At least I know now it's not a 'baddie.' I just updated my nVidia drivers 2 days ago and there was no mention of it in the Custom Install choice.
