After new motherboard install - usb ports - dvd drive; ect not working

I am an absolute newby at this , so my apologies in advance, if I did stupid things - I google and do what people had found to work in the past.

    FYI: got all the drivers from the Acer website and installed them - there is no exclamation marks in device manager, all drivers installed and working properly;

My wife's Acer laptop's mobo blew - PC tech said to expensive to replace - I got one and replaced it myself - took to PC tech, because it did not turn on - he checked all the connections after which it booted into windows, BUT:

    1. usb3 and usb2 ports not working - not in safe mode, nor after uninstalling all the drivers from the universal serial bus controllers and getting them to reinstall by restarting windows.

I then reinstalled Windows - no luck.

    2. Blu ray DVD RW - sees dvd [ data - had drivers on it ] as empty - all 4.7GB of it, although my Asus laptop reads it perfectly well; checked and found that a DVD movie did not play as well. It could see the windows cd for the reinstall?!

    3. No sound, although if I click on the speaker icon in the taskbar, I can see the green bar moving up and down, but no sound.

    4. Bluetooth button not swithing on.

Any suggestions of what to do next?
    Thank you.

    Welcome to Win7 forum.

When you press the switch on, use your finger to keep pressing (press and let go, repeatedly), on the function key F2 which will go to BIOS setting.

Once in BIOS setting, do check that all the devices are available (shown) such as; optical drive, USB is enable, and any other devices being detected.

When Windows start, there is a window sound; can you hear the sound from the speakers.
Try to raise the vol to the max. and ensure it is insert to the correct output, for external speakers, and it is sound not mic.

If newly bought mobo, and not working good, the seller have to provide you for 1 to 1 exchange.
Some seller will do the installation for your free.

As you said you are newbie, it is no good to install yourself, as you may have damage the mobo by not doing proper procedure.
Static charge could damage certain components, which the seller will not provide the replacement.
After mobo done and the rest you could handle quite easily.

So now you may able to ask for replacement &or they do the job.
Since almost all the devices and components may have damaged &or defects.
    This should not happen.

On many laptops, the USB ports are on separate (small) boards, that connect to the motherboard with a cable.
If the technician did not plugged those cables in, the system will show that all ports are functional (on the motherboard), but you will not be able to access any of them .

Can you provide us with information about the ACER model you have?

Also in addition to George's excellent advice, check that the USB header cables are plugged in the correct ports and oriented correctly - Anything that uses a cable with any play, (almost all), can be wronhgly connected to modern motherboards which have a large number of similar Ports.

the most difficult thing in this sort of troubleshooting is Knowing what the connections should be - most suppliers do not supply layout diagrams for laptops as the consider them as consumable systems, which are unlikely to be upgraded or even repaired in their expected three year life span

However you may find a diagram on line either at the manufacturer site or even on a google image search- otherwise a magnifying glass and a good light may find some annotations on the MB itself

Check the sound with earbuds in case the internal speaker was not connected. You may need a separate standalone movie player (such as VLC media player) to view a blu-ray DVD. Bluetooth button probably requires a software driver to activate it - I recently went through this on a Samsung lappy (you'll need the drivers from Acer for that).

    Thank you for your responses,
Eric3742: I did wear an anti static wrist band at all times, so I do not think I damaged the motherboard.
There is no sound when windows starts, but as suggested by RogerR, I inserted the earphones and they do work.

I have checked the BIOS and under the information tab I can see the CPU; the 2 hard drives and the DVD drive,
but I do not see anything related to the usb ports.

Georgeks: It is an Acer 8942G, if you click on my name and then the profile tab , you can view all the specs of the laptop.

I guess it means that there are a few connections that have not been made.
I shall take it back to the technician and report back.

    Thanks again!
