Windows 7: USB Root Hubs missing after windows 7 clean install

windows7 64bit

I have done a repair install but, alas, the result is still the same, no USB2 controllers and the HP drivers still do not install because of lack of USB software. No problem devices in msinfo32. I am sending you the log from 64-bit DXDiag. Unless you have a better idea I will proceed to do a clean install. Thanks for all your efforts and advice.

The Gandalf Win 8.1 PE ISO boot provides results of essentially a "clean" install of Win 8.1: and still USB 3 controller is there but still no USB 2. Don;t think a reinstall will help but can't hurt anything either. Suggest you still try connecxting an external USB 2 hub sometime to the printer.

Let me know how things turn out (especially when you try the USB2 hub). Very curious. Good luck!!

Thanks for your all your help. I have decided that life is too short to go through these problems and I have returned the laptop listing the cause as hardware failure. I did a clean install without any mouse support right through [never happened before] and still no UB2 controllers in device manager. I know that they would work once I installed the USB3 drivers but the USB2 controllers will be needed at some point in the future.
