Can I install Windows 7 on my new computer using this disc?

I am currently using Windows 10 because this came pre-installed on the Asus K31ADE computer that I bought in August this year. I didn't like Windows 10 when I downloaded the free upgrade in September of last year, so I took it out again and rolled back to Windows 7.

I like Windows 10 even less now that I've been using it for 4 months - and that's putting it mildly! I want to get rid of it and go back to Windows 7 but this new computer has never had Windows 7 on it.

I have the Windows 7 installation disc that came with my last computer in, I think, May 2013. Windows 7 was pre-installed on that computer and the disc was for use as a back-up in case the user needed to reinstall the OS.

Can I install Windows 7 on my new computer using this disc? As it says on it 'For distribution only with a new CSL Computer PC' it should contain the necessary drivers, but will they be compatible with my Asus?

If I can't get rid of this dreadful Windows 10 I might shortly be driven to smashing the computer instead, so any help will be most gratefully received!

    Hi Sirius,

depends on the type of W7 licence.
    OEM No
    System Builder YES, possibly
    Retail YES

I have not heard of CSL, so it should be either 2 or 3 of the above.

Can you confirm the ORIGANAL install type

I suspect it was an OEM as I don't have a note of a licence number anywhere. I was thinking that if I could get the OS on with this disc I could then apply for a licence. If I can't, could I get the licence first and then install the OS? There simply has to be a way of doing this as I'm so fed up with being bullied by W10!

Actually, now that you ask the question, I've just had another thought. I have a feeling that there was a licence number for Windows 7 stuck on to the computer case by the manufacturers. I've still got the computer upstairs so I'll go and have a look when I get a minute!

Without that key you can`t activate 7.

This articles is nearly a year old but have a look, and you may want to pose your question at Tenforums. Windows 10 Forums

But basically you want to just clean install 7, you could try using that disc, but you`ll most likely have to still find some drivers.

If you have a sticker then its W7 and on it it will state OEM,
System builder and Retail product codes are ON the packaging.

Your new computer will not have a W7 sticker and you can`t use the W7 key from the older machine.

"I want to get rid of it and go back to Windows 7 but this new computer has never had Windows 7 on it"

How can you go back to something you never had, strange you even mention this.

Why would you buy a new PC with W10, knowing you didn`t like it ?

I don't know what video card it came with in but if that's GT 740 and below, then he should use the onboard graphics.

Why would you buy a new PC with W10, knowing you didn`t like it ?
Maybe because brand new Windows 7 Pre-Built Desktop PCs are hard to find?

Your comments are not exactly helpful! Rather than criticism of what I said or what I did, I need help to resolve the situation that I'm in. To answer your questions:

I want to go back to Windows 7 which I had on my old computer.

It never entered my head that I would not be able to remove Windows 10 and install 7 instead.
